Although the flood situation has improved a bit, the river water in almost all parts of the country is rising again due to heavy rains. Meanwhile, rivers in the southern part of the country are expected to rise rapidly. The water level in the northern rivers is also increasing.
Citing the meteorological offices of Bangladesh and India, the Water Development Board’s Flood Forecast Warning Center said a third flood situation could occur.
Arifuzzaman Bhuiyan, executive engineer of the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center, said water levels in the Brahmaputra-Jamuna rivers were rising. The water level of Ganges-Padma rivers is stable.
Meanwhile, water levels in major rivers in the Upper Meghna Basin in the northeast are declining. However, moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast in the next 48 hours in the south-eastern hilly regions and south-central regions of the country. As a result, the water of the rivers in the region may increase rapidly.
Currently, the water of five rivers is flowing over the danger line. The waters of the Jamuna are flowing at Sariakandi, the waters of the Gouri river at Singra, the waters of Atrai at Baghabari, the waters of Dhaleshwari at Elasin and the waters of the Padma at Goalanda are over the danger line.
