Heatwave sweeps over country

A heatwave was sweeping over the country as the country’s temperature crossed 38 degrees Celsius on Saturday.

A light pressure created at sea could turn into a low pressure due to which the sky was cloudy in some parts of the country. As a result, most parts of the country experienced scorching heat, said meteorological department. 

On Saturday a heatwave was sweeping over two divisions including two upazilas and 11 districts of the country which could continue for the next 24 hours, according to the forecast of the meteorological department.

The weather across the country may remain dry in the next 24 hours. The ongoing heatwave may continue in Khulna and Barishal divisions and the districts of Dhaka, Tangail, Faridpur, Gopalganj, Feni, Chandpur, Sylhet, Pabna, Rajshahi, Bogura, and the upazilas of Sandwip and Sitakunda.

The highest temperature in the country on Saturday was recorded in Rajshahi at 38.8 degrees Celsius. Among the divisional cities, 36.5 degrees Celsius temperature was recorded in Dhaka, 34.6 in Mymensingh, 32.8 in Chattogram, 37 in Sylhet, 35.7 in Rangpur, 36.2 in Khulna and 36 degrees Celsius temperature was recorded in Barisal.

Meteorologists said that temperatures could rise slightly this week. Day temperatures may remain higher than night.

It was further stated in that forecast that the low pressure area over Southeast Bay and adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean intensified into a well-marked low and lies over Southeast Bay and adjoining South Andaman Sea. It is likely to intensify further into a depression and move in a North-Northeasterly direction.
