The people of Satkhira have been experiencing severe heatwave for last few days. The working people are the worst sufferers of the excessive heat.
The roads of the district town become free before noon. People throng to local juice shops to have sugarcane juice, coconut water and other juices to get relived from the scorching heat of the summer. Many people were seen taking shower at big lakes to dodge the heatwave.
Satkhira Meteorological Office sources said that the temperature of the district on Sunday was 36 degrees Celsius and the humidity was 54 percent. The temperature was 40.3 degrees Celsius on Saturday. It was the highest temperature for the district this year.
Many working people expressed their helplessness due to the heatwave with the utmost agony.
A group of day laborers said that they started working at the field early in the morning and could work until 11:00am. After that, they could not continue working due to scorching heat. The paddy harvesting time has already been started in many areas. They get less wage as they cannot work fulltime. Many day laborers fell sick due to the hot weather.
Rabiul Islam, a van puller, said it is being very difficult to pull the van due to the heatwave. It is a matter of sufferings to pull the van during heat in the noon. Moreover, less people come out of their houses so that they could not get enough passengers.
The juice sellers at different intersection of the district town said that they are selling around 100 glasses of juice daily amid the heatwave. Earlier, they were selling half of the quantity.
Monitoring officer of Satkhira Meteorological Officer Kamrunnahar said a mild to moderate heatwave have been experiencing in Satkhira nowadays. This flow might continue till April.
