The crushing catastrophe of a virus outbreak that the world has termed as Coronavirus pandemic is still wreaking havoc around the globe and as a result of which millions have been infected and hundreds of thousands have died. Despite such staggering numbers, in the country, there are still thousands of people who are walking around oblivious of the death toll. Even if they are aware they still choose to ignore safety measures against this virus.

The most recent mass unawareness can be regarded as the elections to various local government bodies. According to a report published in this daily, experts are concerned over the apprehension of further infection due to violation of health rules when the virus is being intensified again in different countries of the world. Their concerns are legitimised when considering the fact that there is yet to be any real breakthrough regarding the vaccine and also the fact that the virus keeps mutating constantly.

The disregard for health safety by candidates and

campaigners who are supposed to be representatives

of the people is very disconcerting

The report also elaborates how there are still 200 more municipalities left that are yet to hold elections. In these trying times, all the candidates and their supporters are conducting campaigns continuously without maintaining any kind of health rules during the corona period. The disregard for health safety from candidates and campaigners who are supposed to be representatives of the people is very alarming.

We believe that there is ample scope for these representatives to show better examples to the public. Despite being instructed to follow hygiene rules this disregard for order and safe health practices is not something that can be expected of local government members.

We hope in the future the rest of the elections will go smoothly and with the maintenance of proper health rules. This issue should not recur in future for the benefit of public safety and good health.
