The ministry of health and family welfare has taken massive plans to celebrate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through ensuing proper health services to the people. Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque on Monday said they would set up help centers in hospitals titled ‘Bangabandhu Corner’, and double the number of beds in all ICUs, and recruit new doctors and nurses.
“We have already doubled the number of beds in all government hospitals. Establishing eight cancer hospitals in as many divisions is now underway. The ICUs beds will be doubled this year,” he said, speaking at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital on Monday in Dhaka. He inaugurated the new 100-bed stroke unit at the hospital. To celebrate the birth centenary of Bangabandhu, the government had declared March 2020 to march 2021 as Mujib Barsho or Mujib Year.
Various programmes will be taken to touch the life of people in addition to the festivity during the celebration countdown of which will begin on January 10. The health minister said they had taken a decision to establish 250-bed dialysis unit this year, and recruit 5,000 doctors and 15,000 nurses.
He said those doctors and nurses would be recruited to meet the need of expanded health services. The prime minister will inaugurate the event at the old airport in Tejgaon -- where the airplane carrying Bangabandhu landed on his return.
