HC rules against illegal rail crossings

The High Court (HC) on Sunday ordered authorities concerned to explain why it shall not pass order to close down illegal rail crossings across the country, reports BSS.

The court also ordered the respondents to explain in four weeks as to why it shall not pass order to mark and set up fences around the legal rail crossings. The court asked railways secretary to inform it about the progress on executing the order within three months. A High Court division bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order after holding hearing on a writ filed by Supreme Court lawyer Syeda Shahin Ara Laili.

Cabinet secretary, railways secretary, LGRD secretary, road, transport secretary, director general of Railways and inspector general of police were made respondents in the writ. Advocate Ekhlas Uddin Bhuiyan moved the writ before the court, while deputy attorney general Amit Talukder appeared for the state.
