The High Court (HC) on Thursday removed all legal bars for demolishing 27 brickfields in Bandarban as it discharged a rule issued over the matter.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Ahmed Sohel passed the order after holding hearing on a petition filed by rights group Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB).
“Now there is no legal bar in demolishing those 27 brickfields,” HRPB counsel and senior advocate Manjil Mushid said.
According to the case documents, the owners of those 27 brickfields were given two years time by the High Court to relocate their operation in 2014. But even after the passing of six to seven years, they were not relocating their brickfields and whenever local administration tried to intervene, they were citing the High Court order.
The HRPB, after that, became party in the case and pleaded to withdraw the bar on demolishing those brickfields.
The High Court on Thursday came up with the order after holding hearing on the plea.
