A High Court division on Monday dismissed the writfiled by former Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) mayor Jahangir Alam,challenging the legality of cancellation of his nomination paper for theupcoming mayoral election.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Mahbub-ul Islam passed the order.
Lawyer of the petitioner, MK Rahman told BSS, "The nomination was rejected as CIB published a loan-defaulters' list which included his (Jahangir) name by error. But he didn't take the loan, and was merely a guarantor of it." Earlier on April 30, Returning Officer of the
Election MdFaridul Islam rejected his nomination. On May 4, he made an appeal against the rejection but it was eventually dismissed by the Divisional Commissioner MdSabirul Islam.
