HC asks Salauddin to surrender to trial court

Rejecting the bail plea of Md Salauddin, an accomplice of fugitive accused in illegal casino business case Mominul Haque Sayeed, the High Court has ordered him to surrender to the trial court within three weeks. 

The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice SM Mujibur Rahman issued the order on Monday after a hearing on a petition filed for Salauddin’s anticipatory bail.

Advocate Zahirul Amin moved for the petition, while Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik, Assistant Attorney Generals Anna Khanam Kali and Md Saifur Rahman Siddiqui Saif represented the state.

According to the case statement, Salauddin used to collect money on behalf of expelled Juba League leader and Ward Commissioner Mominul Haque Sayeed. He also used to deposit the extorted money and the fund collected from illegal casino business to an account of NCC Bank. Salauddin deposited over Tk 10 crore collected from casino business to the bank account.

Md Sohanur Rahman, a sub-inspector of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police, filed a case with Motijheel Police Station on May 30. Mominul Haque Sayeed and three others were accused in the case. 

The case is currently under investigation. The bail application was filed in the High Court last week.
