The High Court has issued a rule, asking authorities concerned to explain why it should not pass an order to give one Md Eusuf Mazumder Shakil, who allegedly lost both his kidneys as a result of wrong treatment at LabAid Specialised Hospital, Tk one crore in compensation.

The HC bench of Justice KM Kamrul Kader and Justice Khizir Hayat issued the order on Sunday (January 21) after holding a primary hearing on a writ petition filed in this regard.

Labaid Specialised Hospital authorities, the Health Secretary, and the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), among others, have been given a four-week period to respond to the directive.

The court also ordered the Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to conduct a probe within two months into the matter.

The petitioner’s lawyer,Advocate Eklas Uddin Bhuiyan confirmed the matter. The lawyer said, “The victim filed the writ petition against Professor Dr HR Harun of the hospital. The petitioners alleged that only because of the wrong treatment of the doctor at the hospital, both the kidneys of the victim have been damaged completely, and now he has to go for a kidney transplant for sure to live.”

Despite expending approximately Tk. 6.20 lakh on treatment, Shakil’s kidneys were purportedly impaired due to the alleged medical negligence.
