Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on Tuesday evicted human-haulers parked at the illegal leguna (human-hauler) stand as well as hawkers from the capital’s Gulistan and Nagar Bhavan areas in order to ease traffic congestion.

DSCC conducted the eviction drive led by DSCC Executive Magistrate Irafan Uddin Ahmed.

Meanwhile, the human-hauler stand on the street in front of Nagar Bhaban has been relocated to east side. The relocated stand (bay) will be used to park at least 54 human-haulers plying 7 routes in the capital.

Regarding the relocation of the stand, Executive Magistrate Irfan Uddin Ahmed said that the illegal stand has been removed from the road in front of the city building as per the instructions of the mayor.

He said, “The main purpose of the relocation is to bring them under discipline as well as increase the revenue of the city corporation through toll collection and ease traffic congestion.”

“From now onwards, no one will be allowed to park their human-hauler at the former stand for picking up or dropping off passengers. We will run mobile courts to that end and continue our supervision as well to reduce traffic gridlocks,” he added.

The authorities concerned hope that daily traffic congestion in the Gulistan area will reduce owing to such a step.

However, pedestrians welcomed the initiative taken by the DSCC mayor and called for necessary steps to make this arrangement last longer.
