The water of Hatirjheel lake, one of the recreation spots for the city dwellers, has got severely polluted due to nonstop dumping of liquid and solid waste into it.
Visitors and local residents have been suffering from the stench of the water.
The dirty water and garbage also increases the risk of breeding of mosquitos and other harmful insects.
Shohag, a resident of Mohanagar Residential Area, told the Bangladesh Post, “Everyone is fond of clean water and scenic beauty of Hatirjheel. But, recently the residents adjacent to Hatirjheel and visitors suffer due to the dirty water. We hope the authorities concerned will take necessary steps to save the Hatirjheel.”
Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) and Cooperatives Minister Md Tazul Islam on Saturday said, “Aedes infestation has expanded somewhat and dengue patients are being found. So we have started anti-dengue activities vigorously.”
Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam on Saturday said, “Each of us must take the responsibility to prevent the spread of the Aedes mosquito. Dengue and chikungunya must be prevented by keeping our homes and surroundings clean with the joint efforts of all.”
