Hassle-free Eid journeys this time

Published : 25 Apr 2023 09:38 PM

This year's Eid homebound journeys for holidaymakers were hassle free as they reached respective destinations without traffic congestion.

The concerned authorities’ right decision has made the holidaymakers journey more comfortable.

Such a smooth journey has been possible due to some mega road and bridge construction by the present government. To ensure a smooth journey the main credit goes to the multipurpose Padma Bridge.

People of 21 southern districts are comfortably able to travel to their respective destinations by bus directly from Dhaka. But before that they had to wait for hours to cross the Padma River.

On the other hand, as the government has lifted the restriction on plying of bikes on Padma Bridge, bikers have also obeyed the rules given by the government.

On the other hand, Bangabandhu

Bridge, the jack between eastern and western parts of the country has also witnessed huge pressure of vehicles but due to the four-lane road upgradation has also helped people to enjoy smooth eid journey.

Meanwhile there was a suspicion that the Mymensingh, Netrokona bound people may suffer on the Tongi- GazipurChowrasta route but this way has also witnessed less traffic snarls this year.

Thanking people and officials, Road Transport and Bridge Minister ObaidulQuader on Monday said, “This year we have witnessed a hassle free eid journey. All credit goes to people and officials who have worked hard to make this possible.”

At the same time, the minister has also urged the people to remain conscious so that their return journey can be made smoother.

According to sources, due to strict rule implementation, people have been able to travel from Gaibandha to Dhaka within six hours while people can travel Dhaka to Barishal within three hours. On the other hand, to enjoy the panoramic sea view, people are now able to visit Kuakata by bus and with less travel time.

Experts believe that the number of road accidents this year is very low due to the activities of the local administration and law enforcement agencies. If law enforcement and administration remain active in post eid journey, accidents can be reduced to a large extent, said Road Safety Foundation Executive Director Saidur Rahman.

Long holidays before Eid-ul-Fitr in 2023, earlier closure of schools and colleges, prohibiting unfit vehicles to ply and the administration’s vigilance on the movement of motorcycles on the highways have reduced road accidents to a large extent.

Passenger Welfare Association of Bangladesh secretary general MozammelHaque Chowdhury said, “I think the number of accidents this year is much less than other years. Accidents will be less this year if authorities' vigilance can be kept active.”
