Former national football team captain Hassan Al Mamun will serve the national team in different way when he was appointed as the deputy of the Bangladesh national team’s head coach Cabrera.
The National Team Management Committee (NTMC) of the Bangladesh Football Federation announced on Wednesday that Hassan Al Mamun will work with the national team as the deputy of Spanish coach Cabrera.
Mamun, one of the star booters since mid-90s to early 2000, when he also led the national side in 2006-2007, then had the coaches’ course and worked with premier teams.
Kazi Nabil Ahmed, vice-president of the BFF and the chairman of the NTMC after their meeting on yesterday (Wednesday) informed the media that Mamun was appointed as the deputy of Cabrera for upcoming FFIA window matches in March against Maldives and Mongolia.
Mamun, who was one of the celebrities of 2003 SAFF Championship title winners, in his club coaching experiences played important role as assistant coach to made Sheikh Jamal the runners up in the Bangladesh Premier League football. Mamun, who made his national team debut in 1995, will begin as the national team coach from March 19 when the Maldives bound national side will kick off their training session at the Bashundhara Kings Arena.
Mamun, when talking to the Bangladesh Post thereafter having the news of his new duty with the national team said that he was very much excited and his joy knows no bounds having the opportunity to serve the nation with different role.
“It’s really great feelings when one in this profession had a dream to serve the national team as a player and as a coach, I am very much fortunate had the opportunity to serve the nation as player and now going to have the break as a coach.”
“It’s very rare opportunity, almost all players feel happy having the opportunity to play the role as a player and as the coach of national team, my dream comes true and I am very much excited. But it is also a great responsibility and as well as a big challenge to do the duty effectively,” Mamun added.
“If you telling about coaching career, in short period, starting at 2016 with Chittagong Abahani had good result, the Sheikh Jamal also did well even had the runners up trophy last season,” said Mamun.
“Actually have come here with some experiences, but there a lot to know, but I have to say it is a milestone for me, within short time of my coaching career I have the chance to serve the national side,” Mamun expressed his emotion.
“I am very eager to work again with the national side, though the role is different when now I am part of the team as a coach and once was as a player. The area is very much known to me, grounds, dressing rooms, though character is different, but again like to say it is a big challenge as it was as a plyer,” Mamun revealed.
