Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi will hold ‘comprehensive discussion’ on the entire bilateral relationship in the first-ever virtual summit to be held on December 17, New Delhi says.

The Indian external affairs ministry issued a statement in this regard on Monday.

“A Virtual Summit will be held between Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Bangladesh H.E. Sheikh Hasina on 17 December 2020.

“During the Summit, the two leaders will hold comprehensive discussions on the entire spectrum of the bilateral relationship, including further strengthening cooperation in the post COVID era,” read the statement.

“India and Bangladesh have continued to maintain regular exchanges at the highest level. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid an official visit to India in October 2019.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a video message on the historic occasion of Mujib Borsho in March 2020. Both leaders have remained in regular touch during the COVID pandemic,” read the statement.

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen earlier on Sunday said Dhaka would raise the major issues such as pending water sharing deal and efficient management of border to bring down the killing along the frontier to zero.

He had also said that the discussion would be held in the spirit of the month of December, which is the victory month for Bangladesh with December 16 is the Victory Day, since India helped the country to win independence in 1971 against Pakistan.
