Information and broadcasting minister Hasan Mahmud on Sunday hoped that BNP will take part in the upcoming parliamentary elections to consolidate the country’s democracy.
“Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will transform into a less important party if they boycott the upcoming parliamentary elections. It's the reality,” he said.
The minister said this as the chief guest at a Iftar party organised by Television Camera Journalists’ Association at Capital’s Tejgaon Haque Center on Sunday evening.
“We want every political party to participate in the upcoming national elections to strengthen the country's democracy,” the minister added.
“It’s sad for the BNP that they are not in the parliament when Jatiya Jatiya Sangsad celebrates golden jubilee. THey do not believe in parliamentary democracy. That’s why they resigned from the parliament recently,” Information and broadcasting minister Hasan Mahmud added.
Hasan Mahmud said, “BNP thought the government would fall if they resigned from the parliament. It did not happen. They resigned to obstruct the democracy of the country.”
Information and broadcasting minister termed the ‘media’ as the fourth pillar of the country. “Mass Media and journalists are important for the country and the society. The country will move forward with the sincere work of the journalists,” he added.
Television Camera Journalists’ Association president Sheikh Mahbub Alam presided over the Iftar party while general secretary Shahidul Haque conducted the programme. Awami League Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua, Dhaka north city Awami League vice secretary MA Quader Khan, Dhaka south city Awami League former general secretary Shaheb Alam Murad, Asian TV Chairman Harun Ar Rashid, among others addressed the event.
