Service seekers and passengers brought different allegations of harassment against Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) at a public hearing arranged by the government agency in Mymensingh city on Tuesday.
They said they are being harassed for getting various BRTA services, including registration of vehicles, digital number plate, change in ownership, fitness certificate, driving license and name correction.
They alleged that they do not get services even after having necessary documents.
They made the complaints at the public hearing arranged by BRTA Mymensingh Division at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room.
Admitting the allegations, BRTA Director (enforcement) Md Abdur Razzak said some dishonest people are involved in corruption in BRTA.
Warning the dishonest officials, he advised the service seekers to be aware of it.
He called upon the owners of unfit and run-down vehicles in Mymensingh to renew their fitness certificates by June 30 without fine.
Mymensign Divisional Press Club General Secretary Md Nazrul Islam alleged that around 15 to 20 thousands of CNG-driven vehicles are running in Mymensingh district without licence. The government is losing around Tk 20 crore as revenue in a year for this reason, he said.
In reply, the BRTA authorities said the owners of CNG-run vehicles are not taking licence although a decision has been taken to give fresh licence to 1,000 CNG-vehicles in Mymensingh district.
Mymensingh Additional District Magistrate Shihab Uddin Ahmed presided over the public hearing programme while Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) MM Mohaimenur Rashid, BRTA Deputy Director Syed Mejbah Uddin, Mymensingh Roads Division Executive Engineer Khairul Bashar Mohammad Saddam Hossain, BRTA Executive Magistrate Lutfun Nahar, BRTA Mymensingh Assistant Director ASM Wazed Hossain, BRTC Mymensingh Depot Manager (operation) Md Jafar Ahmed, District Motor Owners Samity secretary general Mahbubur Rahman and District Motors Employees Union general secretary Sanowar Hossain Chanu, among others, addressed.
