Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in the low-lying areas of Kishoreganj's Haoranchal area due to heavy rains and landslides in the upper reaches of the Indian state of Meghalaya and Assam.
Vast areas have been submerged due to the water coming down from India. Meanwhile, the upazila administration of Haoranchal has taken various preparations to deal with the sudden flood situation.
It is learned that heavy rains have been pouring down from the upper reaches of Meghalaya and Assam in India since last Thursday night and water is entering various unions of Itna, Mithamin, Austagram, Nikli, Tarail and Karimganj upazilas. Due to the inundation of flood water in the houses, children, paddy, cows and goats, poultry, cow feed and other daily necessities of life are in trouble. Due to the flood, many ponds have been submerged in the water and the fish of the farmers have been washed away. Many families have already been flooded. Due to heavy rains, water started flowing from upstream of Meghalaya and Assam from last Friday morning. Due to the steep slopes coming down from India, the water level in the lowlands of the upazila suddenly rises abnormally. Although the upazila administration has opened the schools for the flood victims, Dhanchal cows and goats do not want to go to illusion.
According to sources, the water level has crossed the danger level in most parts of Haoranchal. In this situation people are crowding the bamboo market. Buy bamboo and somehow keep the house alive.
Kishoreganj Water Development Board Executive Engineer Md. Matiur Rahman said that there has been severe flood in Sylhet and Sunamganj so there is a risk of flood in Kishoreganj as well. He said the trend of increasing water flow in all the basins is likely to continue. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post.
