Several cocktails were exploded in the Dhaka College area after the shops in the New Market started to open on Wednesday afternoon.

At least six cocktails were exploded around 5pm on Wednesday, said police sources.

According to Sharif Mohammad Farooquzzaman, Assistant Commissioner (New Market zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, six cocktails were exploded in Dhaka College area. They (police personnel) later went to the spot.

However, he said that the traffic situation was normal after the incident.

Meanwhile, agitated students of Dhaka College on Wednesday threatened to bring out demonstration again if shops in New Market area are reopened before their demands are met.

They demanded legal action against the people concerned for attacking students, firing at the college's administrative building and throwing teargas shells during Tuesday's students-traders clash in New Market area.

The law enforcers were seen on alert position near New Market area.

Earlier on Wednesday, New Market Business Owners' Association President Dewan Aminul Islam Shaheen said the shops in the New Market area will be reopened.

He also urged Dhaka College students to be considerate of the situation.
