‘Hajj expenses may increase this year’

State Minister for Religion Mohammad Faridul Haq Khan said that before staying in Mina for 3 days, everyone had to sleep downstairs. Keeping in mind their plight, the Saudi government has made arrangements for beds this year.

“Due to the rise in fuel prices, plane fares have also gone up. Due to these reasons, the cost of Hajj is likely to increase this year,” he said.

The state minister was responding to a question from reporters after attending a seminar on "Building a False Free Society in Bangladesh in a Well-Planned Way" organised by Arpan-Darpan Smriti Foundation at RC Majumdar Arts Auditorium on Saturday.

When asked about the number of pilgrims, the said a meeting was scheduled to be held on Saturday in this regard but outcome of the meeting could not be known till filing of this report at 8pm on the day.

The state minister said that the goal of making Bangladesh a developing country by 2031 has been achieved in 2021 under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“If we want to maintain the continuity of development of the country, then we have to move away from lies. Black should be called black, white should be called white. Then I think the government will not have to wait till 2041 to achieve the target of 2041,” he said.

Director General of the Department of Primary Education Alamgir Mohammad Mansur Alam, Director General of the Islamic Foundation Dr Mohammad Mushfiqur Rahman, and former Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister's Office Mohammad Abdul Karim were present at the event, among others.
