Chattogram City BNP has expressed deep sorrow at the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha, describing the incident as a pre-planned political assassination.
In a statement issued to the media on Friday (19 December), Chattogram City BNP Joint Convener Shawkat Azam Khaza said that Sharif Osman Hadi, who was critically injured in a terrorist shooting on 12 December, passed away on Thursday while undergoing treatment at Singapore General Hospital (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Raji’un).
The statement said that the Convener of Chattogram Metropolitan BNP, Ershad Ullah, and Member Secretary Nazimur Rahman have expressed profound grief and sorrow at his death.
In the condolence message, the leaders stated that Sharif Osman Hadi’s active role, uncompromising stance and courageous leadership in the July movement and subsequent anti-fascist struggles will remain eternally memorable in the hearts of the country’s students and masses. His sacrifices, dedication and ideological struggle for building a just, democratic and discrimination-free society will continue to inspire the younger generation for years to come.
They further said that Sharif Osman Hadi’s death was not an isolated incident, but part of a brutal, well-planned and far-reaching conspiracy—an act of political murder carried out to silence his voice. This ruthless attack, they added, is nothing but an attempt to suppress democratic movements.
The leaders expressed grave concern that, using Hadi’s death as a pretext, a vested group has engaged in terrorist activities across the country, including arson, vandalism and looting. These miscreants, they alleged, are once again shedding blood in an effort to impose authoritarian rule. The ultimate aim of such terrorist activities is to destroy democracy, deprive people of their voting rights and sabotage the upcoming election.
They warned that unless strict and exemplary action is taken against these perpetrators, the lives and property of ordinary citizens will face serious threats. They called upon all patriotic democratic forces to unite and build resistance against these bloodthirsty terrorists.
Condemning and protesting the killing in the strongest terms, the Convener and Member Secretary of Chattogram City BNP demanded the immediate arrest of the real perpetrators, a proper investigation to identify those responsible, and exemplary punishment for the guilty. They also prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul of Sharif Osman Hadi and extended their deepest condolences to his bereaved family and relatives.
