A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed Guyana national Karen Petula Stuffle on a five-day remand in connection with the seizure of 8.5 kg of cocaine worth Tk130 crore at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Tuesday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akter passed the order after police produced the accused before the court seeking a 10-day remand.

The plea was made by Airport Police Station Sub-Inspector Majedul, who confirmed the development to the media.

Stuffle was detained at Dhaka airport early Tuesday following a tip-off that a passenger arriving from Doha on a Qatar Airways flight was allegedly involved in drug trafficking.

Acting on the information, customs intelligence officials took positions at the airport. The aircraft landed around 2:30am, and after immigration formalities, the suspect was escorted with his luggage to the Green Channel for scanning and inspection.

During the search, three plastic jars were recovered from the suspect's baggage. Inside the jars, officials discovered 22 foil-wrapped, oval-shaped capsules containing cocaine.
