Cracks have appeared on the repaired roads in Gurdaspur. The pitch of the road is deteriorating. Somewhere on the road has collapsed again. The road collapsed in front of Pachshishar mosque. It is disrupting the movement of vehicles.
Such a delicate situation has arisen at Panchshisha of Gurdaspur-Nayabazar road. The renovation work of this road has been done by M/S Sarkar Construction, a contractor of Natore. Now there are questions about the stability of the road.
Locals complain that although this road is more important in terms of traffic, its renovation work has been done irregularly.
At least 15 people, including van driver Tajem Ali, CNG driver Maklesh, complained that the repaired road had cracks from the very beginning. Cracks have appeared in some places on the entire 5 km road. As the cracks are appearing, there is more broken sides on the road. There is a problem in moving on the collapsed road. In addition, the sustainability of this road has been questioned.
Not only van-rickshaws, CNG run on this road. It is one of the means of communication from Gurdaspur Sadar Busstrand to Banpara Hatikumrul Highway. You have to enter the upazila through this road. Hundreds of trucks loaded with goods from Gurdaspur, which is surrounded by rice mills, travel on this road every day. But the renovation work of the road has been done with very low quality materials.
Some locals said that low-quality bricks have been used in the road. Water was not given properly at that time. The road was not rolled after construction. Again, in the darkness of the night the road has been paved with cold pitch. The road has now started to break down. The rocks of the slope are also rising. Such widespread irregularity in the work of this road of public importance is regrettable.
Sources of Gurdaspur Upazila Engineering Office say that the cost of complete renovation of this 5 km Gurdaspur-Nayabazar road has been estimated at 3 crore 4 lakh taka.
On Friday morning, it was seen on the surface of the road that one side of the paved road has collapsed in front of the mosque of Panchshisha village of Dharabarisha union on the way from the bus strand of the municipal headquarter to Nayabazar. Moreover, cracks have appeared in several places from the bridge area near the municipal headquarters to Nayabazar. Such a delicate situation has been created all over the road.
Sujit Sarkar, owner of M/s Sarkar Construction, said that the constructed road is not supposed to collapse. There is probably foreign fish farming in the side pond. That could be the reason as this fishes tend to dig the mud and soil. The collapse will be investigated and arranged.
Gurdaspur Upazila Engineer. Milan Hossain said that he did not know about the collapse of the road as it was an office holiday on Friday. However, action will be taken after investigation.
