Members of Gulshan Society have demanded swift trial for the brutal rape and murder of seven-year-old Ramisa in the capital's Pallavi and exemplary punishment for the culprit.

With the demand, they formed a human chain programme at Gulshan-2 Square on Friday morning.

Led by Gulshan Society Secretary General Mojibur Rahman Mridha, the programme was attended by members of the society as well as people of different ages, classes and professions.

Gulshan Society Secretary General Mojibur Rahman Mridha, Joint Secretary Joya Kabir, Khadem Mohammad Rayyan Sadid, Women and Children Affairs Chairman Kamrunnahar, among others, spoke at the rally held at this time.

Gulshan Society Secretary General Mojibur Rahman Mridha said, "We are deeply saddened by such incidents. We are concerned about the safety of children."

He said, ‍‍‍‌‌‍Ramisa's rape and murder is a disgrace to humanity. Our hearts are bleeding for our children in such incidents. We do not want such an unsafe Bangladesh.

He said, "We, the Gulshan Society, are seeking speedy and fair trial and maximum punishment from the government and the judiciary for this heinous crime. We are not willing to wait for a long trial."

Other speakers at the rally said, our children will move freely in Bangladesh. Their lives will be safe, their dignity will be safe, that is what we want. But the incident that has happened is not desirable in this modern era. We, as people of a civilized society, cannot accept it. That is why we have gathered here today to express our heartfelt pain. We strongly condemn this incident and demand exemplary punishment for the culprit.

They said that if the trial of such murders is delayed, more such incidents will happen in the future. Therefore, they demanded that the maximum punishment be ensured for the accused in this incident as soon as possible.

At that time, the speakers alleged that every time after such rape and murder, the criminals get away with it through loopholes in the law. They blamed the lengthy trial for this. And that is why they demanded that the brutal torture on child Ramisa and the speedy trial of the murderer be ensured and implemented.

It is worth noting that last Tuesday (May 19), the police recovered the slit-throated body of child Ramisa from a house in Pallavi. The police arrested Sohel Rana, a tenant of the adjacent flat involved in the incident.
