As part of the government’s digitalisation process, Government Resource Planning (GRP) solution service has been unveiled to automate government offices.
The government has developed GRP, an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution of its own, to manage office work electronically to optimize and economize assets and expenses.
Planning Minister MA Mannan launched the service as chief guest at the GRP launching programme organised by Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) in the NEC Conference room at the Planning Commission in the city on Thursday.
State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak, ICT secretary N M Zeaul Alam, Planning Division Senior Secretary Md Asadul Islam, Project Director Dr Ashok Kumar Roy and other senior officials and experts were present on the occasion.
The Bangladesh e-Government ERP Project of Bangladesh Computer Council under ICT Division involving Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) of BUET and a consortium of local software companies has designed and developed 4 out of 9 modules of this GRP.
Zunaid Ahmed Palak said on the occasion, “When all the 9 modules are completed, it will serve as a great tool to manage government resources economically and more efficiently in a whole-of-government approach.”
He said the government is not only making the office smart through automation of various processes, but also ensuring transparency and accountability of the employees.
Zunaid said different ministries, departments and directorates do not need to spend hundreds of crores of taka from the public exchequer to automate their works once the 9 modules function successfully.
The modules so far developed are: event and meeting management, inventory, procurement management and asset management and the remaining 5 modules—human resource management, budgeting, accounts, audit, project monitoring and management will be developed within this year, he added.
The Planning Minister said, “We are much ahead in building a digital Bangladesh .”
In the last 10 years, the country has witnessed rapid growth as people, especially youths, have played a vital role to achieve it.
We need to build digital Bangladesh to reduce corruption, he added.
The GRP solution will be installed to manage official work in all government offices. It will optimise the use of assets and manage expenses as well to ensure transparency and accountability in office work, he mentioned.
However, the 9 modules are being developed as a pilot project for the ICT Division and the Planning Division and after successful application of the modules in these two divisions they would be replicated in other ministries, divisions and directorates.
