An exclusive group art exhibition titled ‘17’ by seventeen modern and contemporary artists of Bangladesh is currently underway at Galleri Kaya in the capital’s Uttara area.
Eminent artist professor Murtaja Baseer inaugurated the two-week exhibition as chief guest on Friday evening. Among the artists, Samarjit Roy Choudhury, Chandra Shekhar Dey, Mohammad Eunus and Jamal Ahmed were present during the opening ceremony.
A selection of 49 art works by 17 renowned artists are put on display in the ongoing exhibition. The artworks are done in oil, acrylic, indigenous pigment, watercolour, ink, charcoal, pastel and pencil on paper and canvas.
The artists whose works are being displayed in the exhibition are-- Aminul Islam (1931-2011), Murtaja Baseer (1932), Qayyum Chowdhury (1932-2014), Samarjit Roy Choudhury (1937), Hashem Khan (1941), Rafiqun Nabi (1943), Hamiduzzaman Khan (1946), Kalidas Karmakar (1946), Chandra Shekhar Dey (1952), Mohammad Eunus (1954), Jamal Ahmed (1955), Kazi Rakib (1955), Ranjit Das (1956), Ahmed Shamsuddoha (1958), Sheikh Afzal Hossain (1960), Shishir Bhattacharjee (1960) and Mohammad Iqbal (1967).
The oldest artwork featured in the exhibition was done by artist Hamiduzzaman Khan back in 1963, while the latest artworks are included from Murtaja Baseer, two of veteran artist’s latest works are done in the current month.
The exhibition is open to all every day from 11:00am to 7:30pm, until October 5.
