A groom was abducted from a microbus as he was on his way home with his bride after the marriage in Narayanganj. The victim’s name is Mehedi Morshed Palash (33), son of late Muksed Ali of Saidabad village in Sirajganj Sadar upazila. He used to live in a rented house in Khilgaon area of Dhaka and has a showroom for electronic products.

Mehedi Morshed Palash’s elder sister Meena Parveen said this at a press conference at News Home on SS Road in Sirajganj on Sunday afternoon.

On the night of June 6 this year, four unidentified armed men stopped a microbus near Kanchpur Bridge in Narayanganj and abducted him.

After the incident, the relatives of the abductee filed a general diary at Sonargaon police station in Narayanganj on June 18. However, even 15 days after the abduction, relatives have not been able to rescue Palash.

In a written statement, Meena said Palash married Tanzia Akhter, the youngest daughter of the late Shamsul Alam of Mohajerpara in Cox’s Bazar, on March 20 this year.  June 2 was their reception date. However, the date was postponed to June 5 due to lockdown due to coronavirus infection.

Meena Parveen said, "After the post-wedding formalities, around 6 pm on June 5, we left for our home in Sirajganj in a rented microbus with the bride Tanzia Akhter, her niece Sajid and niece Tahiya."

As soon as they reached the Dhaka-bound lane on the eastern slope of Kanchpur Bridge in Narayanganj around 3 am on June 6, four unidentified persons in white robes stopped the microbus and identified themselves as members of the law enforcement force.

They all had pistols but no walkie-talkies. At that time, they took Palash down and took him to the Pajero car standing next to him.

She said, “After this incident, I contacted Kanchpur Highway Police Outpost, Sonargaon Police Station, Bandar Police Station, Siddhirganj Police Station, RAB-10 and 11 and Narayanganj Police Super Office but no trace of my brother was found." A general diary was filed at Narayanganj police station on June 18.

Meena Parveen sought the cooperation of the Prime Minister, Home Minister and law enforcement agencies in rescuing her abducted brother.

Relatives including abducted Palash’s bride Tanzia Akhter, nephew Manjur Hasan Ratan, wife's niece Tahiya Nasser were present at the press conference.
