Coronavirus’ clutch on everyday life is adamant all over the world. In Bangladesh, the country has gone into a general closure for all offices and industries to keep people away from each other and to avoid community transmission from taking place. Also, the people have gone into an unannounced lockdown during these dire times.

However, with the number of infected and death increasing there are still some problems which are not being tackled effectively. One such problem in the grocery markets dotted around the country. These are prime locations where people gather to shop for goods and are more crowded than normal areas.

A report published in this daily projected that people are vying close to each other while shopping for groceries at a kitchen market in the capital. This undoubtedly goes against the attributes which has been etched by the health department of the country.

Most of the grocery markets in the capital are congested

maintained in these areas

Health experts opine that if anyone stands face to face, the distance from one to the other should be six feet and the distance must be three feet in terms of standing in a row. But people are not maintaining social distancing in these places.  Under such circumstances, with the increase of the infected on the rise exponentially, it is imperative that the grocery markets be organized in such a way through which people don’t come in as much close contact as they are now.

To this regard an efficient blueprint of grocery markets must be designed and implemented which will allow people enough space to freely move and avoid close contact. As most of the grocery markets in the capital are congested and seldom have five feet of walkway in the middle, one can only wonder how social distancing can be effectively maintained in these areas.

The onus thus falls on the city corporation personnel to effectively establish a movement design with the help of which the people will be able to buy their necessities without coming in close contact of others.
