A live grenade was recovered from the factory of Bangladesh Steel Re-rolling Mills (BSRM) Limited. Members of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Counter Terrorism Unit recovered on Wednesday afternoon and defused the grenade.

The grenade was recovered from the factory of BSRM Steel Mills Limited in Madhyam  Sonapahar area of Mirsarai upazila. Jorarganj Police Station Inspector

(Investigation) Muhammad Helal Uddin said a bomb-like object was reported from the BSRM factory at the police station on Wednesday afternoon.

‘We went and saw a grenade-like object lying in the raw material for making iron rods. CMP later informed the Bomb Disposal Unit of the Counter Terrorism Unit; they came and defused the grenade. '

Muhammad Helal Uddin said, “BSRM authorities have informed us that recently 10,000 metric tons of steel scrap from Japan through Chittagong port was brought to their factory. They thought the grenade was inside the scrap.

"We are not sure if the BSRM said the grenade would come through the scrap. The matter must be identified in the scanning machine while exiting through the gate of Chittagong port. There is also a scanner at the gate of BSRM factory. It was not identified there either.”

Muhammad Helal Uddin said no case was registered in this incident. However, the police station has a general diary. We are investigating the matter on the basis of general diary.

A six-member team led by Inspector Rajesh Barua in-charge of the Bomb Disposal Unit of the CMP Counter Terrorism Unit recovered and defused the grenade.

Inspector Rajesh Barua said the grenade was rusty outside but it was a live grenade. The grenade was defused in an open field south of the BSRM factory.
