Great opportunity of first-ever Test series win against Kiwis

It will be different kind of challenges for Tigers and the Black Caps when they will start their second Test match from today with a different objective at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

It is a great opportunity for Bangladesh to win Test series against New Zealand win for the first time and the Tigers will leave no stone unturned to avail the chance when the visitors will also try their best to avoid the series defeat.

For Tigers, it would be an attempt to make history to win a Test series against New Zealand for the first time since they have been playing against the Kiwis since 2001/02.

After winning the first Test at Sylhet Stadium paved the way for the Tigers to win the series, as they are on leading position.

Once Bangladesh could not take the home advantages, but since a draw against New Zealand in 2013 in Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, Mirpur, Tigers highly inspired and then they won eight Test matches at this ground.

In their eight wins at Mirpur, Australia and England are among the victims, so this time also Tigers can expect to win the series decider today and that would be significant sereis win against New Zealand, to whom Bangladesh suffered six off seven Test series.

In their first Test series in 2001/02 the hosts New Zealand won both the matches by innings to win the series by 2-0.

In their second meeting in 2004/05 at home ground Bangladesh also suffered innings in both of the matches of two-match Test series.

In 2008/08 Bangladesh suffered series defeat but could avoid innings defeat in the first Test match in Dunedin but conceded innings defeat in the second Test in Wellington.

In the fourth Test at home ground in the next season (228/09 season) Bangladesh improved a little to draw one, though lost the successive four Test series to New Zealand.

In 2009/10 season the only Test in New Zealand tour, Bangladesh lost to the hosts and this time also they could avoid the innings defeat.

In 2016/17, it was another Bangladesh tour New Zealand and this time also the hosts won both the matches to win the series by 2-0.

In 2019 Bangladesh tour of New Zealand, hosts won the series when the last match of three-match sereis was abandoned without a ball was bowled due to Crhistchurch shooting.

The scenario was a quite different in 2022 when Bangladesh in their New Zealand tour were capable to draw a Test series in their eighth attempt.

That time it was a mixed experiences for Tigers when they won the first Test in Mount Maunganui but suffered innings defeat in the next one in Christchurch.

This time obviously Tigers’ only target and utmost endeavour to keep the momentum of 2022 in Mount Maunganui and of the Sylhet Stadium.

The memory of Mount Maunganui and the win at Sylhet Stadium might be a great inspiration for he Tigers to win the Test at Mirpur towin a series for the first time against New Zealand and that would be a historic.
