GPA-5 increases by 28.7 percent

100pc pass in 3,023 institutions; zero pass in 104 others

The number of GPA-5 achievers in the SSC and the equivalent examinations has increased by 28.7 percent this year.

This year, a total of 135,898 students have obtained GPA-5 across the country, while last year (2019) the number was105,594. Some 30,304 or 28.7 percent more students got GPA-5 this year.

Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni shared the details of the results on Facebook Live from her secretariat office in the capital on Sunday.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced the results of this year's SSC and equivalent examinations in a video conference from her official residence Ganobhaban at 10:30 am on the day.

Education Minister said the number of educational institutions with the 100 percent pass rate was 2,563, last year. This time it has increased to 3,023.

On the other hand, any students from 104 educational institutions did not pass in the SSC or equivalent examinations. Of which, 50 institutions in Technical Education Board, 48 in Madrasa Board and six institutions under general education board.

Although the overall pass rate is nearly same compared to previous year, the number of GPA-5 holders has risen significantly.

About 6.6 percent of the students who took the exam this year have achieved the highest grade point average—GPA-5 this year while 4.96 percent of the test takers, got a GPA-5 last year, according to data unveiled by the minister.

A total of 35,047 students [8.54 percent] from the Dhaka Education Board achieved GPA-5, which is the highest in the country.

Besides, 13.07 percent students [26,167 students] of the Rajshahi Board got GPA-5, which is the highest in terms of student’s percentage and the second highest in terms of number compared to all education broads. 

On the other hand, 3.67 percent students or 4,263 students of Sylhet education board scored GPA-5, which is lowest in terms of percentage and numbers. 

Moreover, 6.44 percent students [10,245] of Comilla board, 8.57 percent [13,764] students of Jessore board; 6.26 percent [9,008] of Chittagong board, 3.99 percent students [4,483] of Barisal board , 6.30 percent students [12,086] of Dinajpur and 5.95 percent students [7,434] of Mymensingh Education Board achieved GPA-5.

Meanwhile, only 2.72 percent students [7516] of Madrasa Board and 3.70 percent students [4885] of Technical Education Board got the highest GPA.

This year's SSC examination was started on 3rd February and ended on 27th February. Practical examinations were held between February 29 and March 5.

16, 39, 091 students took part in this year's SSC examination under nine general education boards. Of which 845,581 students were female and 793, 510 were male students.

On the other hand, 281,336 students took part in the Dakhil examination under the Madrasa Board. Of these, 147,069 students were female and 134, 267 were male students.

Besides, 131,905 students have taken part in the SSC Vocational Examination under the Technical Education Board, of them 33,165 were female and 98,740 were male students.
