Govt works for riverine tourism

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mohammad Mahbub Ali said the government is working to develop maritime tourism. Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) and Bangladesh Tourism Corporation (BPC), under the Civil Aviation and Tourism ministry have already undertaken various programs for the development of riverine tourism.  

He was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of the cruise program "Padma Cruise" organized by Dhaka Cruise and Logistics from Shimulia Ghat at Lohajang in Munshiganj on Thursday. 

The state minister said, “Our national tourism development policy emphasizes the development of maritime tourism. In addition to the tourism master plan that is being formulated for the integrated development of the country’s tourism industry, maritime tourism is also being considered seriously”. 

“Naval tourism will play an important role in the development of sustainable tourism. Our pride, our arrogance is the Padma Bridge. The Bridge is a reality today under the strong leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. It is a symbol of our development potential. This bridge will connect the people on both sides of the river more deeply. This bridge is currently an important tourist attraction in the tourism industry. Work is underway to introduce tourist facilities along the Padma Bridge for tourists visiting the bridge,” added the state minister.

Mahbub Ali said, “The governments as well as our private partners have an important role to play in the development of the tourism industry and job creation. As a conducive environment for investment has been created in the country under the leadership of Prime Minister, at present our private partners are setting up tourism related institutions in different parts of the country”. 

“The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism has always been sincere in assisting our private partners in the development of the tourism industry. In the interest of the people of the country, in the interest of development, above all in the interest of building the Sonar Bangla of Bangabandhu's dream, we will always be by their side” Mahbub concluded.

It is to be noted that there will be two different packages called Padma Cruise for organizing cruises in the Padma. There will be daily day cruises (10am to 1.00pm) and afternoon cruises (2.00pm to 5pm) from Mawa Ghat. The cruise package will include lunch and light snacks and full-time tea and coffee. There is also an opportunity to change the itinerary and food menu according to the needs of the tourists.
