State Minister for Culture KM Khalid said that children with special needs are much more talented and gifted. The great Creator created them with special talents, qualities and abilities. The government is working for the development and welfare of children with special needs.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's daughter Saima Wazed Putul started working on autism and campaigned for “Comprehensive and Coordinated Efforts for the Management of Autism Spectrum Disorders” resolution at the World Health Assembly which adopted the resolution. As a result of her initiative, the Government of Bangladesh has included Autism Spectrum Disorders and Neuro Developmental Disorders in its sector-wise programs in the health sector. The government is providing monthly allowances to all persons with disabilities, including those with special needs. The government has taken initiative to set up specialized educational institutions for autistic and special children with disabilities in all the upazilas of the country.
The state minister was speaking as the chief guest at Adil Haque's solo exhibition titled 'Living with Painting and Autism: Boy King Adil Haque' at Nalinikanta Bhattasali Exhibition Gallery of Bangladesh National Museum in the capital this afternoon.
Dr. Nisar Hossain, Dean, Department of Fine Arts, Dhaka University and Prof. Hamiduzzaman Khan, Distinguished Sculptor, spoke as special guests at the function presided over by Dr. Lady Haque, mother of Autistic Adil Haque.
It is to be noted that the exhibition will start from today (June 3) and will continue till June 10, 2022 and it will feature 115 paintings by the autistic artist Adil Haque. During the lockdown of the Corona epidemic, artist Adil Haque painted three series entitled 'Folk Art of Bangladesh', 'Livelihood of Bangladeshis' and 'Hidden Treasure of King Tutankhamun's Tomb in Egypt'.
