Government is, visibly, tough against illegal casino, corruption, drug dealing, and terrorism and accordingly a nationwide drive is continuing. Nobody will be spared whoever he or she may be, affiliated with ruling party or opposition, or high government officials, it is asserted from the high command of ruling party.
Earlier the government apparently has waged a crusade against terrorism and it is still continuing.

In recent moves, actions have been taken against a large number of leaders, activists and supporters of Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League and many others on various allegations. Law enforcers recently arrested Jubo League central leaders Khalid Mahmud Bhuiyan and GK Shamin, and Krishak League central leader Safiqul Alam Firoz on account of their alleged involvement in illegal casino business, drug dealing and keeping illegal arms.

Travel ban has been imposed on influential Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Samrat and ruling party lawmaker Nurunnabi Chowdhury Shaon on allegation of their alleged involvement in illegal business. Their bank accounts has also been frozen. Besides, a large number of senior leaders of ruling Awami League and its associate organisations are under close monitoring, sources said.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered all authorities concerned to continue drives against corruption, drug, terrorism and irregularities until this vicious circle is uprooted. She has also ordered not to compromise with anyone or stop drives when she will be in New York to join the United Nations General Assembly.

Outside Dhaka, police on last Friday night arrested two Jubo League leaders in Kushtia on charges of extortion. Kushtia Sadar Upazila unit Jubo League General Secretary Mijanur Rahman Miju, 36, and Kushtia town unit convener Ashraful Sujon, 40 were arrested within two hours of a case being filed against them by a local businessman.

In Bogura, DB police arrested Rahid Mostafiz, a son of former Awami League lawmaker Kamrunnahar Putul, also the women affairs secretary of Bogura district unit AL, on charges of illegal drug business.

The ongoing drive against illegal casino, corruption, drug and terrorism is widely appreciated by the peace-loving people of the country. They welcomed the drives against all criminal activities saying that such type of stern activities by a government in the country is unprecedented. Now people firmly believe that the Sheikh Hasina government can make the country free from corruption, drug and terrorism.

Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader said on Monday that before leaving for USA, the Prime Minister has said that criminals, how influential they may be, or even if they belong to Awami League, will not be spared. A large number of senior leaders of ruling Awami League and its associate organisations are under close monitoring, Obaidul Quader, also road, transport and brides minister, said. Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal also cautioned that nobody would be spared whoever he or she may be.

The countrywide crackdown by different law enforcement agencies on casino operators and drug dealers, as part of anti-drug and anti-terror campaign, will continue. Since the government is proceeding with its ‘zero tolerance’ policy against the corrupt, extortionists, tender manipulators, drug peddlers, criminals, terrorists, these actions will not remain confined to the capital, but rather be spread throughout the country.

Besides, Awami League stalwarts and cabinet members also expressed their determination in this regard saying the drive against the corrupt people, wrongdoers and drug dealers would continue towards making the country free from misdeeds and impropriety. Notably, BCL president Rejowanul Huq Chowdhury Shovon and general secretary Golam Rabbani were removed from their posts earlier on September 14, following allegations of extortion them.
