The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) on Thursday approved separate proposals for importing some 90,000 tonnes of urea fertilizer and 80,000 tonnes of hi sulfur furnace oil to meet the growing demand of the country.
The approval came from the 37th meeting of the CCGP in this year held on Thursday virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair. Briefing reporters after the meeting virtually, Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Md Shamsul Arefin today said that Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) under the Energy and Mineral Resources Division would import 80,000 tonnes of hi sulfur furnace oil from Unipec Singapore Pte Ltd for the November-December period of this year with around Taka 365.13 crore.
He said that the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) under the Ministry of Industries would procure 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertilizer from Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), Saudi Arabia with around Taka 194.97 crore, another 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertilizer from Fertiglobe Distribution Limited, UAE with around Taka 194.97 crore and the rest of 30,000 tonnes of bagged granular urea fertilizer from Muntajat, Qatar with around Taka 197.79 crore.
Arefin said that the BCIC would import 10,000 tonnes of phosphoric acid from M/S Agro Industrial Input, Dhaka (main supplier: M/S Sun International FZE, UAE) with around Taka 61.46 crore.
