The government is going to bring remarkable changes in traditional education system in order to make the education enjoyable and time-befitting.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said this while inaugurating Sheikh Russel Gymnasium at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) on Saturday.

“Our education system is based on excessive examinations and certificates. We are just teaching students, taking examinations and giving certificates. We have to come out from this certificate-based traditional education system,” she said.

The education minister said, “We want to make the education enjoyable. Students will acquire knowledge and learn through joy. At the same time, curiosity and innovation power will be developed across their mind.”

She urged the educationalists to find out the faults in the existing education system.

Dr Dipu Moni said, “The competition in modern labour market is increasing day by day. Therefore, we are working to make skilled manpower as per the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. This type of work will not be possible by the existing traditional education system. We have to think out of box in all the sectors.”

Mentioning ‘Education’ as the biggest tool to face global challenges, education minister said, “Qualification is the only criterion of survival in the world. Students need to develop as skilled human resources through the use of science and information technology.”

She expressed hope that Jashore University of Science and Technology will continue its efforts for higher education.

She said, “Technology is the medium of development. So we have to focus on innovating new technologies.”

JUST Vice-Chancellor Dr Md Anwar Hossain said, “It is not possible for the university alone to promote this university to an international level. Overall cooperation of the government is required. I promise that the progress that has started today, with more cooperation, we will be able to complete it very soon.”

JUST Deans Committee convener Md Nasim Raza, Treasurer Prof Md Abdul Majid, Registrar Engineer Md Ahsan Habib, Director (Department of Physical Education) Dr Mohammad Tofail Ahmed, also spoke on the occasion.

Among others, Jashore Deputy Commissioner Tamizul Islam Khan, Superintendent of Police Muhammad Ashraf Hossain, Jashore Education Board Chairman Prof Mollah Amir Hossain, senior teachers, officials and employees of JUST were also present.
