The government is materializing the vision ‘Improve the quality of education and enhance the dignity of teachers’ of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Plans have been taken to nationalise education for the sake of students, teachers and the nation.

Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing a seminar on 'Dignity of Teachers in the Eyes of Bangabandhu', organized by Swadhinota Sikkhok Porishad (Swaship) at the Institute of Engineers on the occasion of World Teachers' Day.

Mentioning all non-Monthly Pay Order (MPO) institutions will be brought under MPO registration, he said new MPO registration will start from this month. Joint General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Mahbubul Alam Hanif MP said as the chief guest, “BNP government took the education system to the brink of ruin. However, education-friendly Sheikh Hasina’s government has taken extensive steps to improve education. It has set a milestone in history by enrolling 16,000 primary schools, 330 colleges, 320 high schools and 4,500 educational institutions to the MPO system.”

Calling upon the teachers to stay away from dirty politics, he added teachers are the artisans of nation building and the future of a country depends on them.

Former Secretary to the Ministry of Education Mr Nazrul Islam Khan, Vice Chancellor (VC) of National University Prof Mashiur Rahman, Islamic University VC Shaikh Abdus Salam and former VC of Maulana Bhasani University Prof Nurul Islam were also present as special guests at the seminar.

The seminar was presided by eminent educationist Professor Sajidul Islam and Swaship General Secretary Principal Md Shahjahan Alam Saju presented a written essay.

In the meantime, eight points were proposed by the speakers to improve the quality of education and enhance the status of teachers.

Earlier at a human chain in front of the National Press Club, Bangladesh Teachers Association (BTA) demanded the simultaneous nationalization of secondary educational institutions claiming separate nationalization does not do any good.
