Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury has said that Bangladesh government will try to mobilize $15 billion over five years for climate actions.
He said that his ministry will prepare an inclusive implementation plan following the Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan and Five-Year Plan. To build Smart Bangladesh, each activity will be meticulously prioritized and harmonized, ensuring maximum impact.
The Environment Minister said this at a views-exchange meeting with a delegation of Climate Parliament and Bloomberg Foundation in his ministry office at the Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital on Tuesday (January 30). Chairman of ‘Climate Parliament’ Tanvir Shakil Joy, MP, led the delegation.
Saber Hossain Chowdhury said, “We are open to all on this journey. Increasing the use of renewable energy is our priority. We will harness the latest innovations and cutting-edge technology but with a Bangladeshi twist. Solutions will be relevant and tailored to our unique needs and landscape. Suggestions will be welcomed in this regard.”
The delegation of Climate Parliament and Bloomberg Foundation shared insights and initiatives from different regions, highlighting the importance of a unified approach to combat climate change.
Both parties discussed potential collaborations, including knowledge exchange, joint initiatives, and policy implementations aimed at achieving shared environmental goals.
Saber Hossain Chowdhury affirmed his ministry’s dedication to working closely with partners, emphasizing the need for innovative solutions to address the ever-growing challenges posed by climate change.
The discussions centred around collaborative efforts to address pressing climate issues and foster sustainable environmental practices. The meeting ended with a shared commitment to continue fostering a robust partnership between the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change the Climate Parliament and the Bloomberg Foundation.
Convenor of the organization Nahim Razzaq, MP, Head of Asia Pacific, Bloomberg Foundation Ali Izadi, Senior Associate at Bloomberg Foundation Iaahu Kikuma, South Asia Leader of Bloomberg Foundation Tarun Balakrishnam and Mohammad Mamun Mia were present at the meeting, among others.
