The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) on Thursday approved a total of 11 proposals worth Tk 1,452.64 crore including a proposal to import 30,000 metric tons of MOP fertilizer from Russia.
The approval came from a meeting of the CCGP held virtually with finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.
Briefing reporters virtually after the meeting, the Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said that 11 proposals involving Tk 1,452.64 crore have been approved by the Purchase Committee.
The proposals included 2 from the Ministry of Water Resources, 2 from the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, 2 from the Ministry of Food, 2 from the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources, 1 from the Department of Statistics and Information Management, 1 from the Ministry of Industry and 1 from the Ministry of Agriculture,
he added. Of the total approval proposals’ cost, Tk 600.07 crore will come from the government while Tk 851.93 crore from World Bank and the local banks, he said.
A proposal of Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) was approved to import 30,000 metric tons of MOP fertilizer in the third lot from Russia's JSC Foreign Economic Corporation ‘Predintorg’. This fertilizer will be bought at Tk 150.21 crore, the minister said.
Responding to a question from reporters after the meeting, the finance minister said, “This approval has been given as a part of the previous agreement. If there is a problem with the payment through SWIFT, the issue of currency swap or alternative measures will be considered. But we hope the war will end soon.”
