To make safe drinking water accessible in most parts of the capital, the government has taken a huge ingenuity through “Dhaka Environmentally Sustainable Water Supply Project”. With this project, 105 crore litres of water per day will be lifted from an intact in Bishnandi area on the western bank of the river Meghna. Besides, pure drinking water will be lifted and supplied from a place owned by Dhaka Wasa in the eastern bank of the Shitalakkhya.
The level of underground water has decreased significantly in our country, so if this project is implemented, it will help us find surface water, which ultimately will decrease the pure water deficiency in the country. Not only city-dwellers in most areas of the city, but also people in rural areas will get access to pure drinking water through this project.

The key advantages of this project will be sustainable water supply to a growing population in city’s service areas, this includes improved accessibility and reliability of water supply, as well as amplified quantities of water and enhanced water quality. Other indirect benefits which will arise are the employment of skilled and semi-skilled workers during the construction work.
The project will support in forming community based organizations, with the help from government organizations, to make them eligible for legal pure water connections.
Households in low income community, including those which are headed by women, will then have access to pure water supply either through legalization or new connections. All in all, the project will improve access to, and quality of, sustainable water supply services in Dhaka.
The ongoing investments in these types of projects need to happen constantly. This will help rehabilitate and strengthen the water supply systems and will also make Dhaka Wasa enable to manage the water supply systems competently.
