Govt to ensure nonstop electricity supply

The power division has taken all out initiative to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity across the country during the ongoing general holidays due to coronavirus pandemic. State Minister for power, energy and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid said, “We are ready to provide uninterrupted electricity in any situation. Engineers of the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) have been performing duties in all grid submissions of the country, including NLDC control room, HVDC, to maintain uninterrupted power supply to the national grid in case of emergency.

 People of the country are getting uninterrupted power supply during the normal holidays due to the 24-hour relentless efforts by the staff of the power division.” Power division official said, officials and employees associated with generation and supply of electricity are on duty. But they have been instructed to take adequate security measures. All have been confirmed to comply with those safety directives.

Earlier, on March 24, Nasrul Hamid directed supply of uninterrupted electricity, gas and fuel. He said electricity and energy services should continue at any cost. But he also gave importance equally on safety of the staff.

“We will always be with the customers with our service. People can talk with focal point officers for any problem any time. Customers are our family. It is our duty to protect their interest. We also need to help our customers get medical services or information wherever they go,” Nasrul added.

The state minister said the office should be kept neat and clean to ensure safety. Responsibilities can be assigned on a roster by dividing officers and staff into small groups. He also advised to keep ready alternative teams always.

Nasrul said, “Gas and electricity should not be disconnected under any circumstances. He directed that every office should take 'isolation' if necessary. He also directed the companies concerned to take steps for protection from cronavirus from the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Fund.
