Govt to develop smart mkt management to uphold consumer rights: Titu

Commerce Minister Ahsanul Islam Titu on Sunday said that a  smart market management will be developed after finding out the existing problems  aiming to uphold the  consumers rights.

Minister said smooth supply chain is essential for that. 

He was addressing the Bangladesh China Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Economic Reporters Forum (BCCCI-ERF) Journalism Award 2023 distribution ceremony, held at a city hotel . Economic Reporters Forum organized the event.

Minister said "China is one of the biggest development partner of Bangladesh  but we have biggest trade gap with China. We have to manufacture the import substitutes products here with the technical support of China and export elsewhere and that’s how we can narrow the gap."  Minister added.

Minister further said ahead of Ramadan the government has taken some measures to keep the commodities market stable. 

"Even we have taken measures to ease tax importers of essential commodities. 18 lake MT of rice is the in stock. I have talked to India about importing issues of Onion and sugar and they said they will make easier export for Bangladesh", Minister added

ERF President Refayetullah Mirdha presided over the event while FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam and Deputy Chief of Mission, also Minister Counselor of the Embassy of China in Dhaka, Yan Hualung attended as special guests.A total of 68 news articles were submitted in five categories for the BCCCI-ERF Journalism Award this year. According to the scores given by the six-member jury board, 12 winners were awarded first, second and third places in four categories.

In another category, the first and second place winners were one each, but the third place was held jointly by three winners. Altogether 17 journalists received awards in five categories.The award was jointly launched by BCCCI and ERF in 2020 to highlight the growing trade and economic ties between Bangladesh and China.
