Speakers at an annual meeting of a non-government organization here today said the government has taken all necessary steps to bring the transgender people (Hijra) into the mainstream development like other backward people.
They (Hijra) are becoming self reliant through the implementation of various income generating programmes of the government, they said while addressing the annual meeting of the Unnayan Sangstha at its child city compound at Deurpar Chandra area under Sadar Upazila in Jamalpur.
Deputy Commissioner of Jmalapur Md Shafiur Rahman was present in the meeting as chief guest with the President of the executive body of the organisation Md Moazzem Hossain in the chair.
Chairman of Jamalpur Sadar Upazila Parishad Md Abul Hossain, Additional Superintendent of Police Md Sohrab Hossain, Executive Director of the Unnayan Sangha Md Rafiqul Alam Molla and its Director Zahangir Selim spoke among others.
The speakers also said that the joint works of government and non-government organizations have created the opportunity to rehabilitate the transgender people in the society.
Unnnayan Sangstha arranged the programme under the project of socio-economic development for the disadvantaged transgender people.
