Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni has said that the government is going to bring about substantial changes in textbooks in order to make education system more realistic.
“The contents in our textbooks have no connection with our reality. As a result, even if anyone gets a higher degree, it is not useable practically,” she added.
The education minister made these remarks while addressing as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of ERAB Best Reporting Award-2020 organised by Education Reporters Association, Bangladesh (ERAB) at the International Mother Language Institute in the capital on Wednesday.
The education minister said, “Once it was a challenge to bring everyone under the light of education. As it has been successful, we have given emphasis on quality education now. Our students will be made experienced through providing quality education. For this, there will be a big change in the textbooks.”
Dr Dipu Moni said, “Our education system has been burdened with excess number examinations. This puts much pressure on examinees along with their guardians. Physical, mental and social stresses have been increasing as everyone is hankering after only getting GPA-5.”
“To get out of this situation, number of exams and certificates will be reduced and learning will be made enjoyable’, she said, adding, “We are working to ensure financial security and dignity of teachers in this regard.”
Teachers will become more responsible if they can ensure things. Reading will be made efficient not only on the basis of books.
State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Zakir Hossain was present as a special guest.
Among others, Senior Secretary of Primary and Mass Education Ministry Akram Al Hossain, Secretary of the Technical and Madrasa Education Division Aminul Islam Khan, Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Professor Syed Md Golam Faruk, President of the National Press Club Saiful Alam, ERAB President Sabbir Newaz, were also present.
In the programme, Senior Reporter of Daily ‘Kaler Kantho’ Shariful Alam Sumon was awarded with the ERAB Best Reporting Award-2020. Besides, Staff Reporter of ‘Daily Sun’ Solaiman Salman and Staff Reporter of Daily ‘Bonik Barta’ Saif Sujan achieved 2nd and 3rd prize respectively.
