Health and Family Welfare Ministry Advisor Nurjahan Begum said despite being the commercial capital, healthcare at the government and private levels is very inadequate in Chattogram .
All the government and private specialised hospitals in the country are centered in Dhaka. At the government level, the people of Chattogram depend only on Chattogram Medical College and Chattogram General Hospital. This is unfortunate for the people of Chattogram.
After visiting Chattogram Mother and Child General Hospital on Friday, she said these things while exchanging views with the executive committee, teachers, doctors, nurses, and officials of the hospital and medical college in the conference room.
She called on private entrepreneurs to come forward to set up specialized medical services or specialized hospitals in Chattogram .
Referring to reducing the price of rings for heart patients and the prices of many medicines, including cancer medicines, the adviser said, "We are working with an economy that is completely economically devastated. Our government has many limitations. We are trying our best according to our priorities. Despite many limitations, we are doing a lot of work in the health sector. The price of rings for heart patients has been reduced, the price of many medicines including cancer medicines has been reduced.’
To give the profession a place above everything, he told the doctors, there cannot be any group of doctors. Above all, they are doctors. They have to be humane. They have to be transparent, accountable and honest in all matters.
Stating that there are many jobs for skilled nurses abroad, she said, ‘We need to prepare our nurses efficiently for employment abroad. We need to improve their skills in English.
There is a huge demand for nurses in Japan. They need to learn Japanese. For this, we have a system of care giver training. Quality teaching is needed in government and private medical colleges. The current government will not make any concessions regarding quality in medical education. The government will take tough decisions against those who cannot ensure quality.’
Chattogram Mother and Child General Hospital Executive Committee President Syed Mohammad Morshed Hossain informed him about the overall activities of the hospital and sought cooperation in increasing the allocation of funds in the hospital’s Grant in Aid sector.

She also inspected the feasibility of setting up a new hospital in Patenga KEPZ Economic Zone of Chattogram . Then he visited the students of Chattogram University who were injured in the clash and were being treated in the ICU and cabin of a private hospital.
