Considering the economic position, the government will take measures to buy Airbus from France, Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said.
The minister said this in response to a question about the purchase of Airbus from France following a courtesy visit by the French Ambassador to his office in the capital on Thursday.
The Minister said, “French President Emmanuel Macron visited Dhaka in September last year. At that time there was a discussion about buying Airbus for Bangladesh. Considering economic situation of Bangladesh, Airbus will be purchased from the country in the future.”
During Macron’s visit to Bangladesh, a memorandum of understanding was signed for a second satellite for Bangladesh. However, Bangladesh has not yet reached the final agreement.
Asked about the progress in this regard, Hasan Mahmud said, “Satellite-2 is our priority. In particular, for sending weather messages, security issues are highlighted. A MoU was signed in view of this in September last. In between we had the election, and the work would be done quickly.”
The Foreign Minister also said that France and Germany are important development partners of Bangladesh. The two countries were among the few countries that recognized us immediately after independence. Bangladesh’s second largest export market is Germany. France is also at the top of our export trade, especially in ready-made garments.
The two ambassadors officially handed over the congratulatory messages of the French President and the German Chancellor to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for being re-elected in the 12th national election.
