Agriculture Minister Dr M Abdur Razzaque on Wednesday said the government is now providing Taka 2,000 crore more subsidy in fertilizer which likely to rise due to export restrictions imposed on Russia by the western world.

"Restrictions imposed on Russia by the Western world caused a massive disruption of fertilizer import from Russia which resulting in an extra cost of Taka 2,000 crore as subsidy for fertilizer," he said.

The minister told this to the journalists during a view-exchange meeting with Swiss Ambassador in Bangladesh Nathalie Chuard at his secretariat office in the capital

"No fertilizer crisis will be held in the country... But the subsidy will increase more if the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine prolonged," Dr Razzaque said.

"Fertilizer import from Russia and Belarus has been suspended due to the war... But fertilizer is now being imported from Canada as an alternative source due to prompt steps taken by the government," he added.

The country has adequate stock of fertilizer, the minister said, adding: "The present stock of Triple Super Phosphate (TSP), Muriate of Potash (MOP) and Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer will not create any problem till the next Boro season."
