In our country, animal justice is the last thing we can expect as humans also sometimes do not get proper justice. Animals are often being neglected and harassed brutally here.

Many measures have been taken by the government to put a halt to it, however, we are still far from safeguarding or implementing proper animal rights. Most of the people are not even aware that they are committing acts of cruelty to animals while harming them and engaging in illegal wildlife trade.

We must take necessary measures

to conserve our ecosystem

Now the government is willing to take up strategies to thwart the people who control illegal wildlife trade.  Significant progress has been made under the leadership of the Forest Department in strengthening the capacity of law enforcement officers in detecting, identifying, and prosecuting wildlife crimes.

Initiatives will be taken to effectively implement laws, programmes, and projects to curb wildlife crime. Strict punishment should be ensured by bringing wildlife criminals under the law. We must all come forward to protect forests and wildlife in our own interest. The government has to adopt animal welfare-friendly policies. The animal welfare act must be passed and implanted as quickly as possible. Punishment of animal abuse should be made stricter.

The new Animal Welfare Act 2019 has not been implemented yet. There are many tasks left to be done regarding the law including the rules. It will be implemented after the authorities concerned take the matter seriously. So, it is time now that we make the Department of Livestock Services more functional and accountable and save our animals from harassment by implementing a dynamic animal law.
