Teachers’ Day rolls by and the students habitually pay their respects to their teachers. But this year is an exception as coronavirus has created an extraordinary situation for the students who keep away from educational institutions due to long closure.

Even though all education institutions are closed until further notice because of coronavirus, the teachers are the main focus of the government. To this end, the government has decided on developing the living standard of the teachers.

It needs no mentioning that the backbone of a nation is created through education which is imparted by teachers. Facilitating the teachers with the best possible means of fulfilling their duty is the best possible way to take the country ahead. The problems in the teaching profession in Bangladesh are endless. Salary, allowance, promotions are only a few that can be named in the public sector. Even then, the position of teachers in Bangladesh has changed in the last four decades. But compared to time and the world, it is still not promising.

Meritorious people and talents are still not coming to profession of teachings teaching. Experienced teachers are retiring. These gaps are not being filled in properly. Long-term measures need to be taken to attract talented people to the teaching profession. Nearly one million teachers working in 66,000 kindergartens are in crisis over the survival of institutions and professions.

This is the main theme of this year's Teachers’ Day. Are they able to lead in times of crisis like Corona and play a proper role in creating new possibilities on the basis of education? Especially for the grassroots teachers and students, it is necessary to reorganize the assessment system whether to open the school with priority or not.
