The Ministry of Commerce has unveiled a new price regulations for essential agricultural commodities, addressing concerns over rising costs and ensuring fair pricing for the consumers.
The announcement was made by the Commerce Minister during a press conference held on Thursday. The newly established prices are as follows:
Eggs: The price of a single egg has been set at Tk 12. This decision was made in consultation with the Ministry of Livestock, taking into account production costs and the need for reasonable pricing.
Potatoes: The price range for potatoes has been established at Tk 35 to Tk 36 per kilogram. The Commerce Minister emphasized that this price has been determined considering factors like production costs, storage, and regional variations. In Dhaka, the price may vary slightly, but the overall range applies nationwide. At the cold storage gate, the price has been fixed at Tk 26 to Tk 27 per kilogram.
Onions: The maximum retail price for local onions in the market has been set at Tk 64 to Tk 65 per kilogram. Similar to potatoes, there may be a slight price difference depending on the location.
Additionally, the Commerce Minister announced a reduction in the price of soybean oil by Tk 5 per liter.
This landmark decision comes after a thorough review of production, demand, and price dynamics for these essential agricultural products. It marks the first time the government has intervened to set prices for these commodities, aligning them with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and Livestock's recommendations.
The Ministry of Commerce also mentioned that District Commissioners (DCs) will play a vital role in monitoring the implementation of these price regulations, ensuring consumer rights are upheld. This comprehensive market monitoring initiative will cover major cities, districts, and upazilas, aimed at maintaining stable market prices.
The Ministry is committed to implementing these new price regulations effectively, considering all aspects of production, demand, and distribution. The decision has been taken to ensure affordability and accessibility of these essential food items for the people of Bangladesh.
